Annual Events

In Poland, thanks to the variety of national and religious holidays which are often clustered with weekends additional holidays are created. However a lot depends on your employer whether or not to grant a possibility of extending your weekends.

Here is a list of holidays which may be useful when planning your leisure activities:

Nowy Rok (1 January/ New Year’s Day). The first day of the new year.

Poniedzia³ek Wielkanocny - Easter Monday (the time of Easter is different every year and is set in accordance with the phases of moon; 2000 – 24 April, 2001 – 16 April). Common custom in Poland is to pour water on other people which has recently moved out of control and beyond the bonduaries good taste, especially in the streets where hordes of youngsters use whole buckets of water and show no mercy to the by-passers regardless of their age and sex. It is better not to walk alone in a big city on that day or use a car instead.

Œwiêto Pracy – (1 May – Labour Day)

Dzieñ Konstytucji Trzeciego Maja – (3 May – 3rd May Constitution Day) – national holiday to commemorate first Polish constitution issued in 1791.

Bo¿e Cia³o – Holy Christ Body Day – different day every year, usually first or second decade of June

Wniebowziêcie Najswiêtszej Maryi Panny (15 August - Virgin Mary Day)

Wszystkich Œwiêtych (1 November - All Saint’s Day)

Narodowe Œwiêto Niepodleg³oœci (11 November – National Independence Day)

Œwiêta Bo¿ego Narodzenia (25 and 26 December - Christmas)
