House insurance

In Poland a household insurance against risks including fire, storm, flood, burglary is not obligatory. Sometimes, however, it is recommended and some landlords may require confirmation of such an insurance policy. If you wish so it is possible to purchase an additional policy to cover your valuables.

Personal liability insurance covers damages you may inflict on your neighbours‘ property. If you rent a house or an apartment this insurance is highly recommended.

In the event of damage you are obliged to contact your insurance company immediately giving your contract number. In the case of burglary you will be asked to prove what was stolen. Receipts, inventories, guarantees, photos may constitute important proofs.

Car insurance

An unlimited third party liability insurance is compulsory for all automobiles entering Poland. As a proof of insurance, the car owner must present an international automobile insurance certificate (card green - "zielona karta") which certifies that the vehicle is insured in Poland or the insurance covers the territory of Poland.

Health insurance

In Poland health insurance is obligatory. You have the option between private insurance companies and a national health programme which is subsidised by the government. The contributions are paid by your employer and your company is responsible for completing the necessary formalities.
