Polish specifics
Free education available only in state schools. Polish educational system has been reformed recently and is working in accordance with the following scheme:
The end of the high school is accomplished by passing final exam (A-level) - matura which is a prerequisite for entering university. There are few public schools in Poland that are entitled to conduct international version of matura. Schooling options
In Warsaw there are national schools, based on the language and educational requirements of a particular nationality (British, American, German and Japanese) with the goal of preparing the children in accordance with the requirements of the education of the country of origin.
National schools are available mostly in Warsaw. It is recommended to apply in advance due to scarcity of places.
Next to that there are bilingual schools where the second most popular language is English. The school year
The school year is divided into two semesters and starts 1 September. The first semester ends mid January and is followed by two weeks of winter holidays the exact date of which depend on the region of Poland. The second semester ends around 20 June and is followed by summer holidays. |
