Tickets:

  • daily, weekly, monthly 3-monthly and yearly, price decreasing with length of validity; first and second class available (first + 50 %)
  • Special rates for young, old, families and groups

Trains:

  • (L): stopping at all stations
  • (IC) intercity and (IR) interregional: stopping at selected stations
  • (P) peak hour trains: stopping at specific stations, frequent train service between Gare Centrale, Gare du Nord and the Brussels, Airport, journey of 20 min.
  • Road

Driving :

Belgian driving is renowned for being very agressif. Drivers usually will take their priority, if U decide to relinquish it, let the other driver know to avoid an accident through hesitating.

Do not drive with parking lights on, if weather is bad or when driving at night, drive on dipped headlights.

Parking :

Beware of parking in front of garages or entrances. You can be fined (40 EUR) and towed away (70 EUR- 150 EUR), left to find out where the car is and how to get there.

Car equipment :

fire extinguisher, first-aid box, rear fog-lamp and a red triangle the use of rear seat belts is compulsory, tires must have at least 1 mm profile.

Paperwork :

always carry ID papers, driving licence and car registration and insurance papers with you, you need to apply for a Belgian driving licence

Trams have priority at all times

Give way to buses moving away from the bus stop

Two metro lines are available

Cost :

single ticket: 1.5 EUR,change of route within one hour at no extra charge ten journey's: 9 EUR

Cost :

amongst the most expensive in the world, service charges may not be demanded; special taxis operate from Brussels Airport
